Traffic jam chaos at the start of the holidays: A1 and A7 already overloaded!

Finally summer holidays! Since Thursday, students in Bremen, Bremerhaven and Lower Saxony have been able to swap their school desk for a beach towel. But while some people set off, drivers on the roads have to be patient. Buten and inland reports that the ADAC expects significantly increased traffic jams for the upcoming weekend from Friday to Sunday.

There is a risk of increased traffic jams on the A1 and A7 motorways, especially on Friday afternoon, Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening. Another slowdown is the closure of the Elbe Tunnel, which will cause additional traffic in both directions from Friday to Monday. Traffic is expected to be busy in the entire region around Hamburg, which will put travelers' patience to the test.

Traffic jam forecast and recommendations

The congestion forecast is not rosy: many metropolitan areas, including Bremen, Hamburg, Hanover and Osnabrück, are recording significant traffic volumes. In particular, the construction sites on the A7 between Hanover and Hamburg could cause disruptions, similar to the bottlenecks at the Elbe tunnel and the alternative routes to the North and Baltic Seas. Truck driving bans will also apply from July 1st and will apply on Saturdays between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. until August 31st. Catalog of fines points out that trucks over 7.5 tonnes are affected in order to reduce congestion and environmental impact.

Traffic observations show that another peak in travel traffic can be expected on Saturday. In general: Flexibility is required. Travelers are better off starting on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to avoid the busiest traffic. ADAC recommends traveling more stress-free by traveling outside of peak hours - for example on Friday mornings or early Saturdays.

Travel restrictions

An additional problem is the European Football Championship, which attracts additional visitors to the streets. At the national borders, especially to Austria, travelers must expect longer waiting times. ADAC reports that around 1,260 construction sites in Germany will create additional obstacles.

The truck holiday travel regulations and the travel situation are not only causing criticism among drivers of heavy trucks, who feel their freedom of movement is restricted by the legal restrictions. So it's time to fill up the cars, stock up on snacks and think about the weather. A relaxed journey can only be successful if you take breaks and always pay attention to the current traffic situation.

Therefore: No matter whether to the North Sea or the mountains – with a little planning and flexibility, everyone can reach their destination safely. With that in mind, have a good trip and a nice holiday!
