Wandsbek invites you: information event on the Marienthal development plan!

On Tuesday, November 7th, 2025, the planning committee of the Wandsbek district assembly invites everyone interested to an information event. At the center of the action is the project-related development plan process for the areas of Marienthal 37 and Eilbek 16, specifically along Wandsbeker Chaussee and Hammer Straße. The date is set for Monday, November 17, 2025, and begins at 6 p.m. in the Wandsbek Citizens' Hall, Am Alten Posthaus 4, on the 4th floor.

From 5:30 p.m. onwards, citizens can view the planning documents and clarify questions in direct contact with experts. The whole thing is of course free of charge, which makes participation all the more attractive. The planning area, which is located in the Wandsbek district, includes the districts of Marienthal and Eilbek and is defined on the boundaries of Wandsbeker Chaussee in the north, Hammer Straße in the east, developed land in the south and railway areas in the west.

Planned new buildings and citizen participation

Among other things, new buildings are planned, some of which will contain commercial space on the ground floor, while living space will be built on the upper floors. In order to be able to realize these projects, the creation of new planning law is necessary. Those interested will have the opportunity to find out about the details of the project between November 10th and 21st, 2025 at the Wandsbek District Office, Department of Urban and Landscape Planning. Opening times are Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you can't come in person, you can also view the documents online. The necessary information is available on the website bauleitplanung.hamburg.de under the process name “Marienthal37-Eilbek16”. Statements can also be easily submitted online here.

What does a development plan mean?

For many people, the term “development plan” may still sound a bit abstract. But it fulfills an important role in German building law. A development plan represents a binding land-use plan that contains legally binding regulations for the urban planning order of a specific municipal area. The basis of this planning is the specifications in the building code and they are issued by the local council as statutes. Such plans pursue urban planning goals that aim to adequately take public and private interests into account. This regulates not only the aesthetic design but also the functional use of urban areas.

The planning authority lies with the municipalities, which decide how an area can be developed. This process can be time-consuming due to various factors, and public participation, such as the upcoming event in Wandsbek, is an integral part of incorporating citizens' opinions and concerns into the planning.
