Timetable change 2026: Innovation boost for Hamburg's local transport!
The new annual timetable for 2026 begins on December 14th dt5online.de reported. The Hamburg transport company is presenting a number of interesting innovations that will spice up the public transport network in the Hanseatic city. The timetable data has been available via the DB information systems since mid-October, so that passengers can obtain information in good time.
The changes to the subway are particularly exciting. Starting next week, the U4 will run every 5 minutes on Saturdays for the first time. The U1 and U3 also have attractive times to offer: The U1 runs every 5 minutes on Saturdays between Ohlsdorf and Farmsen from 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., while the U3 between Barmbek and Wandsbek-Gartenstadt runs at regular intervals from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Changes in bus and night traffic
There are also exciting innovations in bus transport. A new express bus route X21 will be added Monday to Friday, and many routes will be consolidated - including routes X22, X35 and 105 and 4. The night bus routes will undergo extensive restructuring to better meet the needs of passengers.
HADAG, the ferry company, is also adjusting its operating times: Line 64 will be offered more frequently until midnight. This makes the night transport network even more attractive.
Construction work and regional transport
However, the new timetable year also brings with it challenges: planned construction measures will have an impact on operations. The U1 between Norderstedt Mitte and Garstedt and the U3 between Barmbek and Mundsburg will be closed in the coming years. In addition, there will be new travel times for trains to Rostock from May 1, 2026, after RE 1 will not be able to offer train services between Hamburg and Bad Kleinen until the end of April.
The upcoming long-distance transport changes, on the other hand, promise more modern trains on various lines. From December 2025, Eurocity trains to Prague will be equipped with more comfortable ComfortJet trains. The half-hourly service between Hamburg and Kiel will also be included in the timetable.
With these changes, the Hamburg Senate would like to further increase the attractiveness of public transport and offer passengers better connections and service. This not only benefits commuters, but also Hamburg residents themselves, who can now travel through the city even more comfortably.
