Future-proof: Hamburg/Nord substation receives 20 million euro upgrade!

Something big is happening in Henstedt-Ulzburg: SH Netz has started construction work for the new Hamburg/Nord substation. Especially now, when the demands on electricity supply are constantly increasing, the project, which cost over 20 million euros, gives the population hope for a stable and sustainable energy supply. The initiative aims to ensure security of supply in Schleswig-Holstein while at the same time meeting high requirements for nature conservation. As mynewsdesk.com reports, the collaboration with TenneT for the operation of the substation is already in full swing.

The construction work, which was finally able to begin after approval and intensive searches, includes the construction of three additional 110 kilovolt line panels and a total of 17 switch panels that will optimize operations. In addition, a new company building with 400 square meters of space will be built.

High security of supply in the region

In order to ensure a connection to the existing 110 kV high-voltage network during construction work, temporary intermediate states will be set up. This is particularly important as the new 4.3 kilometer overhead line, which will connect the Hamburg/Nord substation with the new 380/110 kV substation in Ulzburg, provides additional grid stability and safety. The route of the overhead line connection runs parallel to existing lines through the communities of Henstedt-Ulzburg, Norderstedt and Quickborn.

The requirements for nature conservation are high, and the protection of a nearby wetland biotope is ensured by a special amphibian protection fence. Close cooperation was established with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority and the municipality of Henstedt-Ulzburg. This shows how important it is to treat nature responsibly when implementing such infrastructure projects.

Grid expansion and sustainable energy supply

While Schleswig-Holstein cannot be stopped as a pioneering country in wind energy, other projects are also on the agenda. The energy supply of tomorrow will not only be shaped by the new substation in Henstedt-Ulzburg, but also by the collaboration between 50Hertz and TenneT. These two companies are currently looking for a location for a common network connection point in the Büchen, Breitenfelde and Schwarzenbek-Land offices. Two areas are on the shortlist, including in the municipality of Sahms. The decision for this location aims to minimize the amount of space required and at the same time ensure optimal transport connections. Details can be found on the [50Hertz] website (https://www.50hertz.com/de/Netz/Netzausbau/ProjekteanLand/Vorhaben51/).

Schleswig-Holstein's state government is actively tackling grid bottlenecks and has set itself the goal of feeding more renewable electricity into the grid. The aim is to reduce the costs of feed-in management in order to promote the transition to a climate-neutral energy system. For this purpose, several new high-voltage lines and connections, such as the east coast line or the Lübeck-Elbe line, are already being planned. Those interested can find further information about these developments on the website of the northern German state Schleswig-Holstein.

Overall, it is clear that network expansion plays an important role in Schleswig-Holstein. Whether in Henstedt-Ulzburg or at other locations – the course has been set for a sustainable and secure energy future.
