Bishop Fehrs ordains new pastors – a service for everyone!

On Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, the time has come in Hamburg: a solemn ordination service will take place in the main church of St. Jacobi. At 2 p.m., Bishop Kirsten Fehrs will introduce five new pastors and one male pastor into her ministry in the North Church. The service is open to anyone interested and promises to be a touching experience.

The new clergy who have successfully completed their vicariate come to the parishes with fresh enthusiasm. These are:

A celebratory step into the future

What is meant by ordination? This process is the investiture of theologians, during which they are given a blessing for their ministry. In order to be ordained, candidates must complete a degree in Protestant theology and undergo two years of practical training in the vicariate. With ordination they not only receive the right to publicly proclaim the word and administer the sacraments (such as baptism and the Lord's Supper), but also to fulfill the tasks of pastoral care that are of central importance for the Northern Church, such as reported.

Memories of the importance of service are also awakened in another place: On the same weekend, Bishop Nora Steen ordained 16 new pastors in St. Peter's Cathedral in Schleswig, who will also begin their service after a successful vicariate. In her sermon, Steen discussed the necessary support and the hardships that often arise on the path of a pastor. Your message: Believers are not alone in the community, and there are many different people who find a place in the church.

A reflection of personal advocacy

Ordination is not only a step into a new ministry, but also a calling that presents the new pastor with important challenges. In the Evangelical Church, the path to ordination is comparable to other denominations, which also emphasize the direct connection between theological study and practical training, as explained on Wikipedia. Serving as a pastor comes with a high level of responsibility that goes beyond traditional ceremonies. It is the valuable effort that is carried into the communities.

On this special day full of hope and new beginnings, new clergy will feel the blessing and support they need for their ministry. The North Church warmly welcomes you and looks forward to an inspiring future.
